Sister Mine by Nalo Hopkinson

This is my first book about Carribean fantasy. I usually don’t read up about the book I am about to read because I like to keep it that way. So for the first fifty pages I had no clue what I was supposed to be expecting. I swung between disinterest, confusion and curiosity. I found it sometimes going close to Gaiman’s kind of writing but not reaching there. But I know I cannot have that kind of expectation because Hopkinson is a different type of writer, and immediately felt guilty for having that expectation.

The concept and storyline was intriguing and fantastic. It kept me curious. I loved how in many places the book turned into a metaphor for our human existence. Loved the idea of mojo. All these were beautifully thought out and executed.

Personally for me towards the end, it was way too dramatic for my imagination to catch up. I would like to read more of her work before being able to give a detailed review. Looking forward to that. For now, read this without any biases.

Happy reading folks.
